Drs. Roelien Wierda

Drs. Roelien Wierda graduated from the University of Groningen in English language and literature and has a Master’s degree in Educational Sciences. She taught English in higher secondary school for 15 years after which she started lecturing linguistics and educational sciences at NHL Stenden University of Applied Sciences in the Netherlands. As a specialist in Curriculum Design, blended and hybrid learning she was and has been involved in a number of national and international projects with a focus on ICT’s, competency based learning, UDL and Design Thinking. Roelien currently coordinates the NHL InnovationLab – together with her colleague Ron Barendsen - which is a unit focusing on Innovative practices and research in education. Besides, she is co-founder of MySchoolsNetwork, an international social network for schools, moderated by student teachers.

Ron Barendsen (MEd)

Ron Barendsen (MEd) graduated from Social Sciences and in Educational Sciences. He taught Geography in a number of lower secondary schools and has been the owner of a software company, developing educational games and simulations for public and educational institutions. For the past 20 years Ron has lectured Educational Sciences and e-pedagogy at NHL Stenden University of Applied Sciences in the Netherlands. As a specialist in Curriculum Design, e-pedagogy and Blended Learning Ron was and has been involved in a number of national and international projects with a focus on ICT’s, competency based learning, UDL and Design Thinking.
